Empowering Seniors: Navigating Care Resources

Kevin Goulding shared his article, “How to Become an Educated Consumer of Elder Care,” a few years ago, providing valuable guidance for navigating the complexities of elder care. Recently, Kevin’s volunteer work as an Ombudsman with Senior Advocacy Services was spotlighted (near the bottom) in the Spring 2024 Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Quarterly Newsletter.

Senior Advocacy Services, a statewide agency, plays a crucial role in providing older adults with essential support and resources, ensuring their diverse needs are met. Through counseling, advocacy, and community outreach, they address critical issues such as healthcare access, housing, and elder abuse prevention. Moreover, each California county operates an Adult Protective Services (APS) agency, helping elder adults and dependent individuals in need.

Navigating senior care options may seem daunting, but a variety of services are available to enhance seniors’ quality of life. From personalized care in assisted living facilities to specialized memory care programs for Alzheimer’s and dementia, tailored support is accessible. Home care agencies can help with daily tasks, allowing seniors to age comfortably at home. Community centers and senior activity programs promote socialization and well-being.
